Honor Flight Announces May 16 Event for Washington, DC Area WWII Veterans

WASHINGTON, DC – Honor Flight Capital Region, a chapter of the national Honor Flight Network, is actively recruiting WWII veterans who live in and around the Nation’s Capital to participate in its next Honor Flight trip, scheduled for May 16.

This trip marks the 65th anniversary of Armed Forces Day, which was created in 1949 and first observed in 1950. Armed Forces Day honors Americans who have served in the five branches of the U.S. Military: the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Coast Guard.

“We’re honored to have the opportunity to celebrate Armed Forces Day in the company of our local WWII heroes,” said Michael Garceau, founder of Honor Flight Capital Region. “Our goal is to reach every possible WWII veteran. May 16 is our third trip, and we encourage anyone who knows a WWII veteran living in the greater DC area to please contact Honor Flight Capital Region as soon as possible.”

The trip is free for veterans, who will travel by charter bus to the National Mall, where they will visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice, and experience a day of honor and recognition. Applications for the May 16 Honor Flight Capital Region trip will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.

Veterans may apply at http://www.honorflightCR.org/veterans. If you’d like to refer a veteran, enter his or her information at http://www.honorflightcr.org/greatest-generation and a representative from Honor Flight Capital Region will contact the veteran.
