I’m okay…sort of

April 7, 2004 — Update: Pictures now available at:  This Page

First off, just to let anyone and everyone know, “I’m okay….sort of.”
My Maxima on the other hand, she’s hurting. I’ve never seen such a sad sight. Even the front headlights were ejected from the front of the car.
As for me, I’ve got some mild bruising on my legs, a little scratch on my left leg where it looks like it ran up against the dash, a bruise where the steering wheel hit my legs, a nice abrasion from the seat belt across my chest. A few sprained ribs, though I like the ER’s way of putting it, “blunt trauma to the chest.”
So what happened?

Well, I was driving along route 218 in Virginia on my way to work in the afternoon as I had some testing to do on Friday night. As I came around a bend I looked and see a semi sitting at a stop sign kind of jerk like someone was just sitting and working the gears into motion, the front of the truck nudges an inch and then starts into the road. I had no time to think and immediately wondered what the heck this guy was thinking and tapped my breaks at first only to have a natural instinct of pushing my foot on the break hard, and start sliding, that’s a feeling I don’t want to relive.
Nonetheless, as it ends up I hit just where the tires begin on the part of the trailer (not the rig). My Maxima well, like I mentioned before, it’s in some pain… I guess the thing to say is that I can’t really give a full account about it as I’m still sorting it out in my mind. I’m just happy to be alive. Happy that the Lord spared my life. Two feet to the left and I would be no more.
Something that I was thinking about while I was at the hospital getting checked out that we memorized last summer in North Carolina in May.

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

But his delight is in the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields fruit in its season
And its leaf does not whither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

The wicked are not so,
But are like chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.

-Psalm 1
