about:Mozilla - The Book of Mozilla

Monday, April 17th, 2006

So this previous evening one of my roommates and I were tinkering around with Mozilla Firefox and came across the “about:mozilla” link that takes you to an easter egg page with a quote from the Book of Mozilla, 7:15.
Pretty hilarious quote from the fictious book that the developers of Mozilla would include this in the browser. And sure, this might not be new news, but it’s something that I doubt most Firefox users know about, so it’s time for Firefox User Awareness Day - April 17.

…what’s it mean to you?
Today AOL has released their AIM SDK as reported here.
So what’s this mean to you? More or less that other products, gAIM, Trillian, et cetera, will have better support to connect to the AIM Oscar network. However, it could mean the beginning of useless plugins for AIM as well. What are your thoughts?

Windows Flickr Background Changer

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

So you’ve uploaded hundreds of photos to Flickr and you don’t have space on your work computer or your home computer to actually view them or you just wish you had a better way of having them come up as random backgrounds? Then look no further than to check out John’s Adventures for his Flickr Background Changer. Very very cool utility to use =)

AJAX Based Online Storage

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Looking for a place to store files, but don’t have a Gmail account or don’t know how to use the Gmail FS Shell Extension, then look no further than Box.net where you can store up to a gig of files online, for get this… free. Looks to be a pretty slick interface and they have payment options if you’re interested in having a larger file store out there.
This beats good ole Strong Space at the lower level tier plan, but can’t compete when you need 160 Gigabytes of online storage space. Granted, they serve two different communities of interest, the Box for online file storage, Strong Space for massively large rsync backups.

BlackBerry on the RIM

Friday, February 24th, 2006

It would appear that a court injunction may be ruled on shortly. A U.S. judge apparently stopped short of ordering a complete shutdown of Blackberry’s services, which could be quite devastating to the users of the Blackberry service. Fly to the moon in minutes…

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

It’s nice when people say, “Hey Dan, I think that this article is pretty cool, you should write something about it.” Well, since apparently a certain cool gal that I know decided to suggest I thought that I would take her advice and it turns out, she was right, very cool article.
In this article from the Online Sun, there’s news that the US Military is beginning to look into science fiction inspired technologies for transportation. The idea that they propose, which isn’t necessarily a new one, deals with the idea of inducing a large magnetic field that to the best of my intepretation would allow them to “fold” themselves through space and time, arriving at another point in the space time continuum, allowing them to slide faster than theoretically possible (i.e. they should melt :-)). So, according to this article, the US Military is hoping to have something operational soon that will allow them to travel to and from the moon in mere minutes (granted, if they were going to Moon, PA, it would be mere seconds) or to places such as Mars in a few hours rather than a few years. I’m curious as to how complex their destination solutions have to be to be precise that they would arrive at the location that they are intending to go to. And what then once you’re there, how does one get back? Nonetheless, thoughts? concerns?

Which Operating System are you?

Sunday, January 1st, 2006

You are Windows XP. Under your bright and cheerful exterior is a strong and stable personality. You have a tendancy to do more than what is asked or even desired.
Which OS are you?

I think that this fits pretty well, but hopefully I’m all patched up to SP2 with optimized kernel :-)

Skydiving… from space?

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

Can we just say that this is something that I didn’t learn in Mr. Patrick’s AP History class when I was in high school?

Sky Diving from Space

Let’s just say that I’m amazed that he made it past the speed of sound, alive, without any protection. I wonder what that sounded like.
